The water soluble oxidant, 4-acetylamino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxoammonium tetrafluoroborate has been found to oxidize primary heteroaromatic alcohols to their corresponding aldehydes with and without catalyst in aqueous media in fair to excellent yields.
