The water soluble oxidant, 4-acetylamino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxoammonium tetrafluoroborate has been found to oxidize secondary alcohols to their corresponding ketones with and without catalyst in aqueous media in fair to excellent yields.
